MISHONI

2005

A reflection of traditional customs that societies should nod for a change. Mishoni slimly escapes death and ends up being crippled as she goes through a rite of passage into womanhood.

The film posses as an advocacy against Female Genital Mutilation. A participatory approach made the film possible, in collaboration with the HAWOCODA in Hanang district, north Tanzania.

It was shot in location of the Ming'enyi and Bumbeta villages.

The film was sponsored by the Tanzania Cultural trust Fund, in collaboration with the University of Dar Es Salaam Department of Fine and Performing Arts and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation.
